Robert Sharf

Robert Sharf is a professor of Buddhist Studies at U.C. Berkeley. He works primarily in the area of medieval Chinese Buddhism, but also has a broad interest in Japanese Buddhism, Buddhist art, ritual studies, and methodological issues in the study of religion. He is author of Coming to Terms with Chinese Buddhism: A Reading of the Treasure Store Treatise (UHP, 2002), and co-editor of Living Images: Japanese Buddhist Icons in Context (2001). Robert has provided an entry to the DDB on the Treasure Store Treatise. He has also been an energetic supporter of the DDB since its early days, using it in his courses at Michigan and Berkeley. Based primarily on his urging, Berkeley was one of the earliest to pursue a institutional subscription with the DDB. [2010/01/27]
