Back-end Engineer / Sticker Service Development

Position Outline

Work on back-end development and operation of high throughput, user-facing services that support the sticker, emoji, and theme features in the LINE application.

Job Details

Team members in this position are responsible for the leading the back-end development and operation of the sticker, emoji, and theme features of the LINE application.
You will develop scalable service architecture and storage solutions to support tens of millions of users and tens of millions of products.
High availability services with throughput exceeding 200,000 operations per second, support a core feature of the LINE application and contribute directly to business value by integrating LINE's internal application platforms with user-facing features.
We are responsible for the back-end implementation of core communication features which enhance the interactions among LINE's millions of users on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of back-end microservices which support user-facing features.
  • Contribute to architectural designs which can improve the efficiency and flexibility of our services.
  • Ensure a high standard of availability, reliability, fault tolerance for services which experience high throughput.
  • Mentor and train team members on software implementation and operational best practices.
  • Cooperate with other teams and support high quality implementation through active participation in code and design reviews.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 5+ years of server-side application development experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience using scalable data storage technology such as MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka and HBase.
  • Fundamental computer science knowledge.
  • Business level verbal communication skills in Japanese or English.
  • Business level written communication skills in English.

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • High-traffic service development and design
  • JVM application tuning and monitoring.
  • Experience in the coaching, management and/or leadership of a technical team.
  • Microservice architecture.
  • Kubernetes-based application development.

Development Environment

  • Product and Service Development: Java, Kotlin, Spring Framework.
  • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, AlertManager, Elasticsearch, Kibana.
  • Storage: MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Apache Kafka.
  • Infrastructure: Container (k8s), VM/PM on Private Cloud.
  • Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, Configuration repository: Ansible, ArgoCD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions.

Salary

Expected annual salary: JPY 9,000,000 to JPY 18,000,000
Form of salary: Monthly salary (including fixed overtime allowance)
Standard monthly salary: JPY 600,000 to JPY 1,200,000

 ―Base salary: JPY 465,000 to JPY 934,000
 ―Fixed overtime allowance: JPY 134,000 to JPY 267,000

Fixed overtime allowance of 35 hours will be provided, regardless of whether overtime work is performed.
 Note 1: Overtime allowance is paid separately for overtime work in excess of the fixed 35 hours.
 Note 2: Names of items related to monthly salary vary depending on the grades.
 Bonuses are granted a maximum of two times a year. The amount is determined by factors including the company's and your department's performance.

*1 You will be paid for the number of days you actually came to the office. (Maximum of JPY150,000/month)

Work Location

Japan (You can live anywhere as long as you reside in Japan.)
You may be required to report to your assigned office to work.

Note on measures against passive smoking: In principle, no smoking indoors (smoking rooms are available).

Work Hours

Flextime system: standard work hours 7 hours 45 minutes (no core hours)
Start and end times are up to the individual. However, the company's standard working hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Note: Some departments may operate on the standard work hours (9:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.), while others may have a shift schedule.
