Received The 2021 Distinguished Achievement and Contributions Award

Akihiko Sugiyama received the 2021 IEICE Distinguished Achievement and Contribution Award for audio and acoustic signal processing research and development. Specifically, significant contributions to products familiar in our daily life, such as development of adaptive block-size transform coding and its deployment to MPEG Audio standard, development of the world’s first all solid-state audio player, development of a 3GPP-endorsed noise suppressor and its world’s first shipment in mobile phones, development of noise cancellation technology for personal robots and its 6-month demo at the Aichi Expo 2005, have been recognized.
