La historia cuenta que Richard Whiting, Obispo de Glastonbury, un pueblo en Somerset, Inglaterra, temía que Enrique VII expropiara los monasterios católicos y mandó a su mayordomo, Jack Horner, con documentos de propiedad de algunos de ellos esperando que esto puediera evitarlo

The story goes that Richard Whiting, Bishop of Glastonbury, a town in Somerset, England, was afraid that Henry VII would expropiate Catholic monasteries and sent his steward, Jack Horner, with title deeds of some of them hoping it could help to avoid it

Pero Jack Horner, en lugar de entregar todos esos documentos -que llevaba escondidos en la tarta- a Enrique VIII, sacó el más valioso, el del monasterio del señorío de Mells, que sería la ciruela que sacó de la torta.

The deeds had been secreted in a pie but, instead of giving them to the King, Little Jack Horner was said to have stolen the deeds to the manor of Mells, the real "plum" of the twelve manors

Richard Whiting fue acusado de alta traición, por no adherir a la iglesia anglicana y ejecutado en 1539 y Jack Horner se habría convertido en proprietario del Señorío de Mells.

Richard Whiting was convicted of treason and was found guilty and executed in 1539 and the Manor of Mells became the property of Jack Horner.
