The official citation of a Code section or other document. Examples:

subjecttitle (or catchline)

The text portion of the title of a document, such as a catchline of a Code section, a chapter name, etc.

head

A field that includes both the heading (such as Chapter II or §1032) and the subject title within a document.

sourcecredit (or source)

The source credits for a Code section or other document within the Code. Examples:

Particular page in the Statutes at Large --

source:"121 Stat 310"

Particular public law --

sourcecredit:"Pub L 109-295"

statute (or stat)

The text of a Code section.

codification (or cod)

Editorial notes provided as explanatory information with respect to Code sections or other documents.

expcite

Short for "expanded citation", this field includes all headings and subject titles for every title, subtitle, chapter, subchapter, part, section, etc. in which a Code section or other document occurs. Examples:

Any Chapter 3 in the Code --

expcite:"chapter 3"

Any document with the phrase "aviation programs" --

expcite:"aviation programs"

Restrictions on the Set of Documents to Search

title

Specifies the number of the title or appendix over which to search. Example:

title:11

This query finds documents in title 11. Use "11a" to search over the appendix to title 11.

subtitle

Specifies the subtitle number over which to search. Example:

subtitle:3

This query finds documents contained in any subtitle III or subtitle 3 within any title of the Code.

chapter

Specifies the chapter number over which to search. Example:

chapter:73

This query finds documents in Chapter 73.

subchapter

Specifies the subchapter number over which to search. Example:

subchapter:3

This query finds documents within any Subchapter 3 or Subchapter iii in the Code.

part

Specifies the part number over which to search. Example:

part:A

This query finds doucments within any Part A in the Code.

subpart

Specifies the subpart number over which to search. Example:

subpart:iii

This query finds documents within any Subpart 3 or Subpart iii in the Code.

section

Specifies particular sections by number. Example:

section:1583

This query finds all sections numbered 1583 in the Code.

To search for a particular section within a particular title, use both the title and section fields. Example:

title:19 and section:1583

Section numbers can also include letters and other punctuation. Examples:

section:1431a

rule

Specifies particular rules by number. Example:

rule:41

This query finds all rules numbered 41 in the Code.

form

Specifies particular forms by number. Example:

form:12

This query finds all forms numbered 12 in the Code.
