TIME OUT #228 - Wintery or Holiday Theme

This is the last TIME OUT Challenge for the year and it is also my final challenge as a TIME OUT DT. I have really enjoyed the last seven years as a DT member - I have always loved our challenges and I hope to continue as a player for future challenges :)

Our challenge this fortnight is perfect for the season - we are challenging you to create something wintery or seasonal:

Our sponsor for this challenge is Newton's Nook who are offering the challenge winner a $25 gift voucher :)

When I saw this Riley and Company background die, I knew I it would make a wonderful wintry holiday card. I used 5 different soft colours of glitter paper and some inlaid die-cutting to put the card together. The sentiment strip is foiled from Spellbinders

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT#227 - Photo Inspiration

We have another wonderful TIME OUT challenge for you this fortnight - my favourite type of challenge - a photo inspiration challenge:

Our sponsor for this challenge is our very own Kim and her Etsy shop - Running Stitch Design. She has created this beautiful bag not only as our inspiration photo but also as the prize for the winner of this challenge! Isn't that fabulous!

For my card, I decided to focus on the critters in sweaters - I don't have any stamps of dogs wearing sweaters - so I went for the next best thing - cats wearing sweaters! And I took advantage of the situation to create another holiday card.

I used the Simon Says Stamp critter sweaters stamp and die set to create the three cats in sweaters - I used emboss resist and then ironed off the clear embossing powder after inking them. The background was also created using iron-off emboss resist using Simon Says Stamp Lots of Snowflakes. The foiled greeting and curve cut were created with some Spellbinders Kit of the Month products.

Our Guest Designer for this challenge is Sidan of wenig oder viel who was the winner of challenge #224 - we are thrilled to have her join us for this challenge :)

Thanks for stopping by!

TIME OUT #225 - Thankful

We have a seasonal challenge for you this fortnight at TIME OUT - we are challenging you to be thankful.

And we are thankful to have such a wonderful sponsor for this challenge - Lawn Fawn is offering the challenge winner a $25 gift voucher to their store :)

I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to do for this card so I turned to my collection of backgrounds and die cuts to see if I could put together something interesting - and this is the result:

The items salvaged from my ever-growing pile of half-made stuff were the panel (embossing paste using an older Memory Box stencil) and the leaf die cuts (using a SSS die and some card stock "painted" using Nuvo shimmer powder). I added an extra die cut from vellum, some pearls, and a layered Honey Bee die cut greeting to finish the card. Oh - and foam tape - lots of foam tape!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #224 - Cancer Awareness - Frienship - Encouragement

Our TIME OUT challenge this fortnight is our annual cancer awareness-friendship-encouragement challenge.

Our sponsor for this challenge is CAS-ual Friday Stamps - they have been a wonderful sponsor of this challenge every year but, sadly, this will be the last year as they have made the difficult decision to close their shop this year.

I kept my card fairly simple for this challenge - I used an Altenew stamp/stencil/die combo for the floral - the pink is symbolic for the challenge. The mandala die cut is from Honey Bee Stamps and the greeting is from Simon Says Stamp. A few pink pearls for the finishing touch

Our guest designer for this challenge is Elizabeth from Paper Sweetness - she is a regular TIME OUT player and has guest designed with us several times as well. We are thrilled to have her join us again for this special challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #222 - Inspired By Words

Our TIME OUT Challenge this fortnight is to be inspired by this wonderful Maya Angelou quote:

"Try to be the rainbow in someone's cloud"

Our sponsor for this challenge is Lawn Fawn who are offering the winner a $25 store credit :)

For my card, I used a rainbow die from Memory Box and backed the negative space with double sided adhesive sheet so I could put some (very old) glitter from my stash to good use. To keep the glitter theme going (check out the sentiment from YNS if you are wondering why!) - I die cut some MFT clouds from Lawn Fawn white glitter paper and popped them up with some foam tape.

Our guest designer for this challenge is Fran from Franmade in Oregon - we are so happy to have her join us :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #221 - Festive

This fortnight at TIME OUT, we are challenging you to be festive!

We are thrilled to have Birch Press Design joining us as a sponsor - they are offering the winner a $20 store credit :)

Holiday cards are my favourites to make - and I had to have this new Spellbinders die set - combined with some hot foiling and lots of dimension - I love it! I also hot foiled some MFT snowflakes in Opal foil in the background to create a shiny tone on tone look.

Thanks so much for stopiing by!

TIME OUT #220 - Make Your Own Background

Our TIME OUT challenge this fortnight is all about the background - we are asking you to create your own

Our sponsor for this challenge is Stamplorations - they are offering a $25 gift voucher to their digital store :)

I am in the holiday card-making spirit - these are my favourite cards to make. This card is actually one that I mass produced last Christmas but I never shared it and I thought this was the perfect challenge to do so.  The birds are Hero Arts Bird Words (love this set!) - I stamped them once in grey and then stamped them again in Versamark directly over top so I could add some Perfect Pearls and create some shine on them. The holly and berries are also from the set - the berries were embellished using a sparkly pico embellisher to add a little bit of dimension. The greeting strips are from Gina K - they are pre-printed but I foiled them using my Minc in red - to add even more shine to the card.

Our guest designer for this challenge is the very talented Desert Diva, Hannelie :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #219 - Photo INspiration

I love photo inspiration challenges - definitely my favourite type of challenge and we have a great one for you this week at TIME OUT

Our sponsor for this challenge is a new one - we are so lucky to have Varda Sharma joining us as a sponsor :) They have a wonderful shop and will be offering the challenge winner 2 $15 gift vouchers to their store :)

When I first looked at this photo, I thought about watercolouring or ink blending a sunset scene and then using some silhouette stamp - but then I looked at my desk and spotted some MFT floral circle dies that I just had to have but still haven't used - and I thought it might be fun to go in a different direction. I created my "sunset" scene behind each of the silhouette circles by using coloured card stock strips. I pulled the colours from the photo - light blue, orange, yellow, pink, and dark blue - I never would have put these colours together but somehow they worked (see why I love inpiration photos!). I kept the rest of the card very simple - an MFT white embossed greeting on a strip of the same dark blue that I used behind the image and a few droplets to embellish.

We are very lucky to have Deepti from Handmade By Deepti join us as GD for this challenge. Deepti is a regular player (and winner!) and we are always so inpired by her creations.

Thanks for stopping by!

We have the perfect sponsor for this challenge - a very kind company CAS-UAL FRIDAY STAMPS has agreed to provide the challenge winner with a $25 store credit :)

I chose to focus on the sentiment for the kind theme for this challenge - and I created this very simple card using Concord & 9th Silhouette Print stamps.

TIME OUT #215 - Photo Inspiration

We have a new photo inspiration TIME OUT Challenge for you this fortnight:

We are so lucky to be sponsored by Stamplorations for this challenge - they are giving the winner a $25 gift voucher to their digital store :)

I had trouble getting my mojo going for this challenge but I really did love the triangle artwork on the wall of the photo and I knew I wanted to use that. As is often the case, my final design ended up being very different was from what I started with. I did some inlaid die cutting with an older SSS die and some watercoloured panels. I added a reverse foiled sentiment (love that solid foil plate!) for an extra bit of shimmer.

We are thrilled to be joined by Deepti from Handmade by Deepti as our guest designer once again - her designs are always inspiring so make you stop by her blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #214 - Inspired By Words

We have agreat TIME OUT Challenge fo you this fortnight - some inspiring words from one of my husband's favourite actor/comedians - Steve Martin:

We are so thrilled to have Cas-ual Fridays Stamps sponsoring us for this challenge by offering the winner a $25 store credit :)

I decided to focus on the sunshine part of the quote - and the overall feeling of it - which I associated with hope. I love this Hero Arts My MOnthly Hero kit and I thought it would be perfect for the challenge. I can't take credit for the design of this card - I was really inspired by Channin Pelletier's card here using a stained glass technique for the die cut. I used a sparkly pico embellisher to fill in the work and I used the yellow sparkle embossing powder that came with the kit fo rthe sun rays - so there is some sparkle in this design even though the picture doesn't capture it.

We are so happy to have Trina Pham of Phamtastic Design joining us this week - her designs are gorgeous and sure to provides oodles of inspiration.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #213 - Vacation

With summer coming soon, we have the perfect TIME OUT Challenge to get you in the mood to enjoy it - a vaction theme challenge!

We are thrilled to have Lawn Fawn sponsoring us again for this challenge - generously offering the winner a $25 gift voucher :)

I always think of travel when I think of vaction - so I created a simple card using iron-off emboss resist, and ink blending using an older Clearly Besotted set. The greeting is from Neat & Tangled.

We are so lucky to have the amazing Marieke joining us as a GD this week - her work is so amazing!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #212 - Spring

We have a new Seasonal challege for you this fortnight at TIME OUT - we want you to be inspired by Spring!

We are very lucky to have Poppystamps joining us again as a sponsor - they are offering the winner a $15 store credit :)

When I think of Spring, I think of the mix of seasons - and the first blooms peeking up from the ground in the snow. That is what is was like here 2 days ago - the crocuses are out but we still got 5cm of snow!

I embossed a Simon Says floral background stamp in Liquid Platinum embossing powder and then practised some watercolouring in some Springtime colours - with a few splatters added for the snow effect :) The die cut greeting is from Concord & 9th.

Our talented guest designer for this challenge is Asa J of scrapat helt enkelt - we are thrilled to have her join us!

TIME OUT #211- Photo Inspiration

We have a beautiful phto to inspire you this fortnight at TIME OUT Challenges:

We are very lucky to have Poppystamps as our sponsor for this challenge - they are generously offering the challenge winner a $15 gift voucher for their store :)

I took my inspiration from the trees in the photo and used the "Through the Trees" stamp from Pinkfresh Studios. Stamp once in light green onto light blue cardstock, then rotated 180 degrees and stamped again in dark green. I wanted to see whether I could apply hot foil to an image stamped on coloured cardstock and it worked well. Bothe the frame and the greeting are from Spellbinders and were hotfoiled onto the image using copper foil. Really pretty in real life :)

We are very lucky to be joined by Lisa from My Paper Tales as a guest designer :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #207 CASE CHallenge

I was so excited for this TIME OUT challenge - it is the first CASE challenge we have done in a few years - and the card we are CASE-ing was created by the incredibly talented, Michele Ferguson from I Card Everyone :) Isn't it a beauty!

Our sponsor for this challenge is Stamplorations who are offering the winner a $25 gift voucher to their store :)

For my CASE, I used the same card design and colours but I added the colours to the inside of the heart instead of behind it. I used Altenew's All The Hearts to stamp the hearts and the corresponding die to create the panel onto which I had already glued some rays.

Our Guest Designer for this challenge is Ashwini from Experimenting with Cardmaking. Ashwini is a regular TIME OUT player - we love seeing her creative designs in our gallery and are thrilled to have her join us for this challenge.

TIME OUT #205 - In Love

Our challenge this fortnight at TIME OUT is perfect for anyone making their Valentine's Day cards - or anyone who just wants to celebrate love :)

Our challenge is sponsored by Alex Syberia Design - the winner gets a $15 gift voucher to her store and when you see her amazing designs, you will definitely want to win :)

For my card this challenge I used the Alex Syberia Love U digi - so adorable. I flipped the image on my computer (love that you can do this with digital images!) before printing it and colouring it with Copics. I used some Christmas Red Stickles on the glasses for some fun sparkle. The greeting was stamped - it is from MFT - and soooo perfect for this image!

We are thrilled to have Milla from Mustesormi joining us again for this challenge as our guest designer. Milla is a regular TIME OUT player and her gorgeous cards have been selected as the winner on several occasions.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

TIME OUT #204 - New!

Our final TIME OUT challenge for 2021 is the perfect one to welcome in the new year - we challenge you to be NEW!

It is a perfect challenge for us to introduce our two new design team members as well :)  We are so happy to have Nancy and Aarthi join our team.

Our sponsor for this challenge is Uniko who are generously offering the challenge winner an in stock stamp set of their choice :)

I decided to make a New Year's card for the challenge - but that is where the "new" theme ends for me - the supplies I used are all older ones. I clear embossed Hero Arts Artistic Circles onto a piece of white cardstock. I used the infinity circle dies to create stencils that I used to sponge different colours of Distress Inks over the various circles. I cut a strip from the panel before foam mounting it onto a purple card base. I white heat embossed the sentiment directly onto the card base - this is also from an older Hero Arts set.

We are thrilled to have Chrissie from Simply One of a Kind joining us as our guest designer for this challenge - her clean and simple designs are always so inspiring :)

I will also be entering this card in the current Hero Arts Stay Craft Challenge - circles

Thanks so much for stopping by!
