Research Postdoc

The Biomedical and Health Informatics program offers a modest number of postdoctoral training fellowships, funded by the National Library of Medicine. These fellowships typically begin in the fall of each year, and are usually of two-year duration. Note that eligibility for these fellowships is limited to US citizens and permanent residents.

These fellowships are available to individuals from a variety of backgrounds who are interested in working with our faculty on their ongoing research projects.

Funded NLM postdocs who are not also seeking a BHI degree have a set of coursework requirements, which include taking four of our eight core departmental courses. Please see details at the bottom of this page.

Prospective applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship should contact the program office in advance of the deadline to indicate their interest.

Postdoctoral Fellowship recipients are required to have an earned doctoral-level degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution in hand at the time of appointment. Note that eligibility for these fellowships is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

FAQ: Postdoctoral Fellowship Applicants

 

1. Is there a defined curriculum for the fellowship? What does a typical day for the fellows look like?
Postdoctoral fellows take four of our core BHI courses and lead and participate in our research colloquia during the two-year fellowship. As such, during an academic quarter, fellows usually take at least one course (two days a week) and a seminar (one day a week), and spend the remainder of the time working with a research mentor.

 

2. How do I apply for a degree-seeking postdoctoral fellowship?
Tuition coverage for degree-seeking fellowships is dependent upon funding availability each year.

 

3. Are there any prerequisites to apply for the program?
We strongly recommend that fellowship applicants have formal college-level coursework in mathematics, computer programming (two courses), and biology. See Q12 under the Graduate Program FAQ.
