Christian,
I'm not familiar with the "unaligned access" messages you're referring
to. Perhaps these are being generated by the compiler or the runtime
library, as there's no code in VMD that would print such messages. Have
you tried running the VMD 1.8.5 binaries for IA64 that we've posted on the
web site? Do they behave differently on your machine? If you can provide
me with a transcript of the messages you're getting, I may have further
suggestions.
