Hi,
We usually don't switch to new versions of Tcl until the Tcl people mark
the new version as "stable". At present, they distribute the 8.4.x series
as the "stable" version, and 8.5.x series is still referred to as an "alpha"
or test version. I do test VMD with the new versions, as they are often
needed when adding support for a new platform. To give you an idea, in the
last few weeks I've been submitting bug reports to help the Tcl developers
fix various problems with the current Tcl 8.5.x build scripts on Windows...
It's always best to ship VMD based on the stable version :)
