Dear John,
So, I managed to compile the plugins correctly .. everything worked
nice and I jumped to the last step of compilation.. I went into the src
directory and type make and then make platform (I chose the LINUXAMD64)
... However no executable "vmd_LINUXAMD64" was created. The make install
command created a sort of executable that of course did not work ...
(and it gave the erro that vmd_LINUXAMD64 was not found)
Now I guess that the problem is that the program didnt find the
correct libraries so I started to look at the configure script to see
how the required libraries are searched for ... However, there are a
lots of settings in the configure script so before I start to mess with
it I would like to ask you for some initial short hints about what I
should change according to my local libraries:
1. Tcl and Tk libs and headers are in /usr/lib64 and /usr/include
2. OpenGL libs and headers are in /usr/lib64/GL and /usr/include/GL
(however I noticed that the configure searches in the /usr/X11R6/include
and /usr/X11R6/lib64 so, is that correct?)
3. I couldnt locate into my system the fltk and sdl libs although I
installed them with YaST and they should be there .. however "locate
fltk" or locate sdl" doesnt show me any useful hints ... Is there a way
to find out where exactly are those libs?
4. I compiled surf, tachyon, STRIDE into the location indicated by vmd
(./lib) and change the names of the executables accordingly (adding
_LINUXAMD64 to the original name)
I would be grateful if based on this info you could give me some short
advices how to modify the configure.
For configure.options I have: LINUXAMD64 OPENGL FLTK TK IMD LIBTACHYON
TCL PYTHON PTHREADS NUMPY SILENT. Is this enough or some other options
are required in order to get a successful compilation...
Hope next time I'll be successfull ....
Vlad
P.S. I have to say that the entire process of compiling vmd made me
learn a lot about libraries, the OS, the vmd architecture and so on so
its really usefull...
