Hi Marc,
For people in Europe, I know that there's another Ebay site
in the UK, and that one one of my friends from Sweden was able
to find a Magellan Spacemouse (similar to Spaceball) on that site
at a good price. I just checked though, and at the moment I don't
think there are any spaceball or spacemouse devices for sale there.
For your reference though, that site is here:
  http://www.ebay.co.uk/

Note that on the bottom of that page they have other sites listed,
under "Global Sites". This might help you find an Ebay that better
serves your local area. There are probably more Spaceballs for sale
in the USA than abroad, as I believe the device was much more popular
in the CAD industry here than it was in Europe. I think that the
"Magellan Spacemouse" devices were more popular in Europe.
If you happen to see a Magellan Spacemouse at a good price, it is
very similar to the Spaceball. VMD doesn't directly support the
Magellan on Unix yet, but the Windows version of VMD will work with
it by virtue of the fact that the new drivers from 3Dconnexxion
support both the Magellan and Spaceball, and the Windows version
of VMD talked uses this driver:
  http://www.3dconnexion.com/

I just looked on the German Ebay, and though I did not find any
Spaceballs for sale there, I do see a bunch of Magellans for sale:
  http://search.ebay.de/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=spacemouse&ht=1&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&shortcut=4&BasicSearch=++

If I get time, I'll see if I can write the necessary code for VMD
to directly support the Magellan on Unix, so far I haven't had time,
but perhaps I'll be able to do that for VMD 1.8 before its finished.

Good luck with Ebay etc,
  John Stone
