Hi,
  When you create your own .vmdrc, it overrides the one in the
/usr/local/lib/vmd directory, so the commands in that .vmdrc are
not run. If you want to preserve the majority of the default
VMD behavior at startup, and just want to change a couple of things,
then the easiest way to do this is to copy the .vmdrc file from
/usr/local/lib/vmd/.vmdrc into ~/.vmdrc and then edit the file
to your own taste.
