Some Unpublished School reports.
[In November, 1845, the town passed a vote directing the heads of the several departments to make their annual reports to the auditing committee for publication with that of the auditor. In accordance with this vote the school committee made its first report, February 1, 1847, for the year 1846-47. In the statement of the selectmen, February 10, 1846, they say that ‘The school committee were unable to make a full report previous to the examination of the schools for the present quarter.’ A report was, however, issued in April, 1846. There were others printed in 1843 and 1835, but none of them have as yet been found. Some attic probably contains copies, and all interested in the history of the town are earnestly requested to make search for these missing documents. Beginning with March, 1836, there are on file in the office of the city clerk several written reports that have never been printed, and that these may not disappear entirely, it has seemed best to offer the earliest of them for publication in the Register.—C.
