Military officer; born in
Wallingford, Conn., May 15, 1841; graduated at Yale College in 1860; served in the
National army in 1862-64 and took part in several important engagements; was appointed a second lieutenant of ordnance,
U. S. A., Jan. 20, 1864; and was promoted major May 1, 1890.
After the close of the
Civil War lie was assigned to duty with the
United States Geological Survey.
