ἀρχομένου δ᾽ ἔργου, κτἑ.: A favorite quotation in modern as in ancient times. The genitive absolute, though not “pawing to get free,” is not used with perfect freedom in P. Hence ἀ. ἔ. is felt to depend on πρόσωπον.
