Phlegra

(τὰ Φλεγραῖα πεδία, Phlegraei Campi, Phlegraean fields). The scene of the fight between the gods and the Giants. (See Gigantes.) It was identified with the volcanic plain which extends along the coast of Campania from Cumae to Capua; and, because of its great productiveness, was called by the Romans Campus Laborinus and Laboriae (Pliny , Pliny H. N. xviii. 111).
