II. generally, burn, καταγιζομένου τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἐπιβαλλομένου [ἐπὶ τὸ πῦρ] Hdt.1.202; esp. burn a dead body, τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Καίσαρος ἐν ἀγορᾷ κ. Plu.Ant.14, cf. Brut.20; so (as cj. for καθήγνισαν) ὅσων σπαράγματ᾽ ἢ κύνες καθήγισαν whose mangled bodies dogs have buried, i.e. devoured, S.Ant.1081 (= μετὰ ἄγους ἐκόμισαν, Sch.).
