ἐπιλαγχάνω , pf. (v. infr. 11):—
A.succeed another in an office on a vacancy, “οὔτε λαχὼν οὔτ᾽ ἐπιλαχών” Aeschin.3.62, D.58.29; ἐ. τινὶ βουλῆς succeed him in the Council, Pl.Com.167, cf. 166.5.
2.. obtain, have allotted to one, “εὐδαιμονίας” Ph.1.629, al.
II.. fall to one's lot next, “ἐπιλέλογχε πύματον . . γῆρας” S.OC1235 (lyr.); ἐπιλαχόντα “τινὶ πράγματα” PMon.6.50, cf. 7.45 (vi A.D.).
