ἐπα^κού-ω , fut. ἐπακούσομαι ib. Ge.30.33, later
A.“ἐπακούσω” Psalm.Solom.18.3:—hear, c. acc. rei, ὂς πάντ᾽ ἐφορᾷς καὶ πάντ᾽ ἐπακούεις, of the Sun, Il.3.277, cf. Od.11.109; prov., ὁπποῖόν κ᾽ εἴπῃσθα ἔπος, τοῖόν κ᾽ ἐπακούσαις as thou speakest, so wilt thou be answered, Il.20.250; “φωνὴν ἐ.” Hes.Op.448; “χρησμόν” Ar.Eq.1080: c. acc. rei et gen. pers., “ἔπος ἐμέθεν” Od.19.98: c. gen. rei, “εὐχῆς” Ar.Nu.263; “τῆς φωνῆς” Hdt.2.70: abs., Th.1.53, Hdt.9.98, etc.
2. overhear, “μή τις τῶν ἀμυήτων ἐπακούσῃ” Pl.Tht.155e, cf. Ar.Th.628.
3. hear about, hear tell of, “μόχθων” E.Tr.165 (lyr.); c. part., “οἷον γᾶς Ἀσίας οὐκ ἐπακούω . . βλαστὸν φύτευμα” S.OC695 (lyr.); “τινά τι δρῶντα” Pl.Lg.729b.
4. give ear, listen, A.Ch.725 (anap.): c. gen. pers., “ἐμοῦ 'πάκουσον” S.OT708, cf. Pl.Prt.317d; ἐ. μοι 'pray attend', Id.Sph.227c: esp. of giving ear to one who prays, of God, LXXIs.49.8, UPZ78.24 (ii B.C.); or to advice, commands, etc., i.e. obey, “βουλῆς” Il.2.143; “δίκης” Hes.Op.275; “ἐμῶν μύθων” S.Ph.1417 (anap.): c. dat. rei, “τῷ κελεύσματι” Hdt.4.141; “ταῖς εὐχαῖς” D.H.13.6, cf. LXXHo.2.21(23).
5. later, like ἐπαΐω, perceive, understand, “τῶν ᾀδομένων” Luc.Salt.64, cf. Plu.Flam.10 (or, hear distinctly).
6. ἐπακούσεταί μοι ἡ δικαιοσύνη μου shall answer for me, LXXGe.30.33.
