A.cut through, cut in twain, dissever, “διὰ δὲ γλῶσσαν τάμε μέσσην” Il.17.618, cf.522 (tm.), Hdt.2.139; “διὰ κάρα τεμών” S.Fr.799.6; διὰ κῦμα τεμών cleaving the wave, ib.271.5 (anap.); διχῇ γαῖαν δ. part it asunder, A.Supp.545 (lyr.); “δίχα δ.” Pl.Smp.190d; “τι ἀπό τινος” Id.Plt.280b: metaph., disunite, “διατετ μηκότα τὴν πολιτείαν” Aeschin.3.207.
