ἀφυ^ής , ές, acc.
A.“ἀφυῆ” S.Ph.1014 codd.: (φυή):—without natural talent, not clever, dull, opp. “εὐφυής, πρός τι” Pl.R.455b; οὐκ ἀ. no fool, Id.Lg.832a; ἀ. πρὸς ταύτην τὴν σκέψιν wanting wit for it, Id.Phd.96c; “ἐς μάθησιν” Democr.85, cf. AP14.62.
2. in good sense, simple, unschooled, S. l.c.
II. naturally unsuited, “οὐκ ἀ. πρὸς τὸ φιλοκερδεῖν” X.Cyr.1.6.32; of places, “ταῖς δυνάμεσι” Plb.1.30.7; “πρός τι” Id.4.38.1 (Sup.). Adv. “ἀφυῶς, διακεῖσθαι πρός τι” Id.1.88.11; “ἀ. ἔχειν πρός τι” Arist.IA710a5, Plu.Aem.2: Comp. “-έστερον” Anon.Rhythm.Oxy.9. iii 11.
