A.divide:—Act. is not found in this sense (for aor. ἔδαισα v. δαίνυμι, δαΐζω being used:—Pass., δαίεται ἦτορ my heart is torn, distracted, Od.1.48: Ep. 3pl. pf., Αἰθίοπας, τοὶ διχθὰ δεδαίαται ib.23: —more freq. in Med., distribute,κρέα δαίετο15.140; “κρέα πολλὰ δαιόμενος17.332; “πήματα . . δαίονται βροτοῖς ἀθάνατοιPi.P.3.81; cf. δατέομαι.
II. aor. ἔδαισα, feast, from Hdt. downwards, though formed from δαίω, belongs in sense to δαίνυμι (q. v.):—Med., feast on,[ἀμβροσίην] δαίονταιMatro Conv.72. (δαι- also in δαίς, δαίνυμι, etc.: prob. akin to δα- in δατέομαι.
