PORTICUS METELLI

built in 147 B.C. by Q. Caecilius Metellus Macedonicus around the temples of JUPITER STATOR and JUNO (q.v.), which he erected at the same time (Veil. i. II; ii. I ; Vitr. iii. 2. 5). It was between the circus Flaminius and the theatre of Marcellus, and contained many works of art (Plin. NH xxxiv. 31 ; xxxvi. 42). It was removed to make room for the PORTICUS OCTAVIAE (q.v.).
