Boar Swamp (Virginia, United States) (search for this): article 1
Another Peninsula rumor.
Early in the day of yesterday it was reported about the streets, in every quarter of the town, that the Yankees were again advancing on Richmond by way of the Peninsula, and that a heavy column had reached Diascund Bridge.
Later in the day it was stated that their advance had reached Boar Swamp, on the Chickahominy, a few miles from Bottom's Bridge.
In the evening we called upon the authorities, whom it was reasonable to presume would be advised if there was any foundation for the rumor, and were assured that it was a mere idle report.
It is certain that there was no excitement or preparation to indicate that the city was threateningly menaced.
