o Cedar Creek, about two miles from Strasburg. Our less is thought to be about two hundred, a heavy proportion of which is in company officers — Among the killed or missing, the names of Captain Antrim, Lieutenant Dale, Major Jackson, and Lieutenant Williams are given. It is difficult to understand the circumstances connected with this engagement, particularly as previous information seemed to leave little doubt of the evacuation of the town of Winchester by the enemy. This was doubtlessiles this side of Winchester, Sunday at 11 P. M. After a severe contest, Jackson was compelled to retreat, with heavy loss of men and officers. Capt. Antrom of Augusta, was wounded and taken prisoner; Lieuts. Dale and Wilson, of the 5th Virginia regiment, were killed, Capt. Buford is among the missing. Maj. Jackson and Lt. Williams are missing and supposed to be killed. Our loss is about 200. Gen. Jackson retreated to Cedar Creek. Baggage all saved. The enemy are advancing. A. W. Harman.
