ving secured the enlistment of more volunteers, Ward proceeded to Texas, where they organized accordspatched a larger detachment, consisting of Colonel Ward's original battalion, towards Refugio. This battalion, under Ward, fought two bloody battles with the enemy, in the first of which he was victextent of fourteen hundred men, and intercepted Ward as he retired to the church at Refugio.
