Hotel' quiet disturbed. --William T. Vickers, a Maryland exile, was arraigned before the Mayor last Saturday to answer the charge of attempting to shoot and cut John C. Taliaferro, one of the proprietors of the Ballard House. Vickers, it seemsVickers, it seems, had been in a social party, and thoughtlessly indulged too freely in the poisonous compounds now sold as strong drink. Becoming crazy from its effects, he repaired to the hotel at meal time, took a seat at the table, and, imagining the white tablferro being apprised of his conduct, and having regard for the two hundred guests seated at the table, remonstrated with Vickers, whereupon V. arose from his chair, drew his pistol, and was about to give Mr. T. a blue pill, when Major Garnett seizedblue pill, when Major Garnett seized the weapon. Vickers then drew his bowie-knife, which Major G. also took from him, and the police coming in V. was imprisoned. The Mayor hold him to bail in $300 to answer an indictment by the next G and Jury.

d assessed with a fine of $350. The Court overruled a motion for a new trial, and sentenced him to two months confinement in the city jail, and to pay said fine and the costs. Woodson, Henry, and Albert, slaves, charged with breaking into the store of John O'Niel and stealing five kegs of lard, were tried; whereupon the Court discharged Woodson and sentenced Henry and Albert each to receive nine and thirty lashes to be well laid on at the public whipping post. In the case of William T. Vickers, charged with assaulting John C. Taliaferro on the 20th December last and attempting to shoot him with a pistol, the accused was tried by a jury, found guilty, and sentenced to pay a fine of five hundred dollars, and a capias ordered to be issued for said fine and costs. The Attorney for the Commonwealth, with the advice and direction of the Court, entered a nolle prosequi in the case of Thos. Collier and Mike Walsh alias George W. Nelson, indicted for grand larceny.
