nks, at New York, who had superseded Major-General Butler in command of the Department of the Gulf, and who was then in New York, superintending the embarkation of troops destined for his command. The Forty-first Regiment sailed from New York, direct for New Orleans. In addition to the nine new regiments, and the four thousand men recruited for the regiments in the field, two new batteries —the Ninth and Tenth—were recruited and organized within the same period.
