is probable that the Confederate Congress will adjourn within the next ten days, to meet again in July, at such place as circumstances may render necessary. A report has reached Keokuk, that a party of Missourians had gone over into Taylor county, Iowa, and burned the town of Amity. The Kentucky Border State Commissioners, recently elected, were to have assembled in Frankfort Tuesday for preliminary consultation. It has been decided by the United States to protect the upper Mississippi river with armed steamers and batteries of heavy ordnance. Dr. Charles Hughes, of Davenport, Iowa, having refused to take the oath of allegiance to the United States, was driven from the city. The New York Courier and Enquirer insists that it is the intention of the Confederate States to invade Pennsylvania and pillage Philadelphia. Hon. Howell Cobb, in a letter to the Athens Banner, announces his unalterable determination to retire to private life on the expiration of his
