On the 4th, when Lee's movement of withry, cavalry, and artillery under General Imboden guarded us from this point to Staunton, a distance of over 1.20 miles, I think.
It seemed five hundred miles to me, perienced anything but kindness from the men who guarded me from Gettysburg to Staunton.
After a long rest I was placed in a wagon and taken to a house where I gotguards were posted around the fences.
At one of those halts, as we approached Staunton, a farmer with his wife drove up close to the fence, and after taking a criticur real number.
At length — about the 20th of July, I think — we arrived at Staunton, weary and sore.
