and continued four hours. The Minnesota was set on fire, but the fire was extinguished. A ship is aground and badly damaged. Twenty-three prisoners were brought to this city last night. The fight was one of the most desperate on record.--The Virginia ran into the Cumberland and sunk her. Our officers and men behaved with great gallantry. Captain Buchanan was slightly wounded. Lieut. Minor was slightly wounded. Two men were killed at the port bow gun of the Virginia. One shot passed through the boiler of the Patrick Henry, killing two men and wounding three midshipmen. Hatler, of the gunboat Raleigh, was killed. The blockade has been raised.--The destruction of life on board the Congress was awful. It is supposed that there was fighting at Newport News this morning. The Virginia and Patrick Henry are coming up to the city. [The report of the raising of the blockade of James River, is probably premature. It could not be raised so long as the enemy holds Newport News.]
