Clark, Francis Edward
Clergyman; born of New England parents in Aylmer, Quebec, Sept. 12, 1851; studied at Kimball Union Academy, in Meriden, Conn.; graduated at Dartmouth College in 1873, and studied theology at the Andover Seminary; and became pastor of the Williston Congregational Church, Portland, Me., Oct. 19, 1876.
In this church, on Feb. 2, 1881, he founded the Society of Christian Endeavor, which has spread throughout the world.
In 1883 he became pastor of the Phillips Congregational Church in South Boston, but in 1887 he resigned that charge to become president of the United Society of Christian Endeavor, and editor of the Golden rule, the official organ of the society.
He is the author of World-wide endeavor; Our journey around the world; The Great secret; A New way around an old world, etc.

In September, 1844, the travellers returned to America and took up their residence at the Perkins Institution, in South Boston, in the apartment known as the Doctor's wing.
At first, Laura Bridgman made one of the family, the Doctor considering her almost as an adopted child.
His marriage had been something of a shock to her.
