Dawson is about thirty five years old, six feet high, quite black; his hair some? what straight and bushy, and has very good teeth. He is believed to be lurking about Richmond, where his wife lives. x bridge at Maltoax Station, where they came upon a body of Confederate soldiers, placed there to guard the bridge. Our men threw one shell at them, when they turned off, crossed Bevill's bridge, and proceeded to Chula Station, about thirty miles from Richmond. The Yankees having misplaced a switch, the locomotive Waynoka, on the way back from Appomattox bridge, ran off the track and was abandoned by the engineer and conductor. The locomotive was subsequently destroyed by the Yankees. At Chula they burnt all the railroad buildings, the residence of the agent — in fact every house at the place, making a clean sweep. On Saturday morning the raiding party returned to Appomattox bridge, where a small skirmish took place, resulting in their repulse. Shortly before noon they attacked our forces at Flat Creek bridge, on the farm of Lewis E. y had ever seen a real live Yankee, and then, with a pompons air, said "If you have not, here is one," and his Adjutant immediately added, "What do you think of him? Do you see any horns? " The Yankees acknowledged that they were repulsed at Chula, and said that they lost a few men there, which caused them to change their course. They got hold of an Express at Lawrenceville and laughed heartily at its contents, saying that it was stuffed with rebel lies, &c. Mr. Derby was told by one of the raiders that Speare was fired upon by our men at Chula, fell from his horse, and lay on the ground some time feigning to be dead. He finally crawled away and got back to his men. The force of the raiders was composed of the 11th Penn, 3d New York, and 1st District of Columbia, and the rear guard of part of the 11th Penn. There were heavy rains all the way from Blacks and Whites to Mount Sinal Church, and the men were caked with mud from their heads to their heels. Mr. Der
