Toward evening, however, it became evident that something was on foot; and Ransom's brigade, with the 8th N C, was drawn up in the woods facing the works on the Washington, Lee's Mill and Bath roads. At just 3½ in the morning of the 20th our line began to move forward, slowly at first, d
ch was taken up, and, preceded by the Armory Band, they were conducted to their respective quarters, the officers being taken to No. 4 Hospital, on 10th street, and the privates and noncommissioned officers proceeding to Chimborazo.
