In Statu Quo. --The morning that it was reported that the Yankees were committing depredations on the Central railroad, a short distance above the city, a number of the railroad employees pressed into service the engine Augusta, and proceeded upward to ascertain the facts. When they had gotten to Peake's, about seven miles above Richmond, they discovered the Yankees, and had barely time to slip from the engine and make their escape.--The machine was captured by the foe after running a short distance beyond Chickahominy bridge, and the latter being destroyed, a full head of steam was raised and the engine was forced towards Richmond at a rapid rate. The result was her landing in Chickahominy swamp, where she now lies, with nothing but her smoke stack damaged. The Augusta will be brought back to the city in a short time. --Her engines will not cost much to repair.
