Virginia, worse than Niobe, would not be childless, but would be condemned to look upon her children humiliated, degraded, and enslaved, while the stranger and enemy would enter upon all they possessed. But Bancroft will never put that picture in his History of the United States. It believes, he will live only to wind up his work with the end of the misdirected and perverted Government he eulogizes. His countrymen will not revel in the hundred halls of Virginia, and drag from her bowels the wealth he portrays.
