General Randolph.
We are informed that General George W. Randolph was withdrawn as a candidate for Congress on the morning of the day of election, and that his resignation of his post of Colonel in the army was recalled before he was promoted to that of Brigadier-General. General Randolph has been assigned to the command of the district between Suffolk, in Nansemond, and Weldon, on the Roanoke.
Suffolk is the point where the Petersburg and Norfolk and the Seaboard and Roanoke Railroads unite.
The command is, therefore, highly important, as this is the point thought to be most threatened now by the Burnside expedition.
