War Illustrations. --Manager Lee Mallory opens his "war illustrations" at Metropolitan Hall, on Thursday night. The exhibition met with much success in New Orleans, and a gentleman who saw it there informs us that it was fully deserved — that it is really a splendid illustration of the prominent events of the war. Metropolitan Hall. --Lee Mallory's "War Illustrations" are to be seen every evening at this popular place of resort. To-morrow, for the benefit of families that have not the opportunity of witnessing the scenic and automatic beauties of this entertainment at night, a grand matinees takes place at 11 o'clock. So far the Hall has been filled with the most appreciative of auditors, beauty and [fashion lending, by their presence; an additional charm to the glowing work of the painter and theamp of Manassas, the march of cavalry, and the moving of ambulances is the background, as especially real in effect. One thing may be mentioned as characterizing this work of art, both acting and painted figures are consistent in proportions, Mr. Mallory having carefully looked to the effect of foreground and perspective. We have, therefore no incongruous intermingling of giants and dwarfs without reference to natural contrast. A mentionable feature of the enbition is the drop curtain, givin

War illustrations. --Lee Mallory's admirable serioco automatic exhibition, entitled as above, can be seen at the usual hour to-night at the Metropolitan Hall. It grows in favor with the public.

The Ladies' gunboat Association. --A committee, appointed by the board of directors of "The Ladies' National Defence Association," composed of the following persons: Mrs. Judge Clopton, Mrs. Vernon, Mrs. Gwathmey, and Mrs. Smith, waited upon the President and Secretary of the Navy yesterday, for the purpose of soliciting the co-operation of the Government in their project of building a gunboat for the protection of the city of Richmond, and we are happy to state that the result was most satisfactory. The committee were received by the officers in the most courteous manner, both of whom expressed their earnest sympathy in their patriotic enterprise. Secretary Mallory, with approval of the President, tendered to the Association the gunboat now in process of construction by the Government, which will facilitate the consummation of their project very much, and enable the ladies to afford the Confederate capital a most formidable defence.
