Found guilty of Forgery.
--Charles Smith was tried before Judge Lyons yesterday, for forging J. R. Crenshaw's name to a check for $34, which he passed to Gotlieb Maisch.
The prisoner was ally defended by H. C. Cannon, but the proof being very clear, the jury found him guilty, and sent him to the Penitentiary for three years. The prisoner was then tried for forging Warwick & Barksdale's name to a check for $46, (passed to Peleg Vincent,) and was defended by the same counsel.
The jury found him guilty, and ascertained the term of his imprisonment at two years. In two other cases vs Smith, the Prosecuting Attorney entered nolle prosequis. In one other case pending against him the Court quashed the indictment.
When the prisoner was arrested for the offence above named, he was found in the room of a courtesan with whom he had been sustaining intimate relations for some years.
When she heard the officer coming she put Smith in a wardrobe.

For Z. S. McGruder, House of Delegates, 1,031.

So far as we know, Mr. Lyons was not a candidate.

Convicted.
--Wm. T. Cummings, who was on trial last week before Judge Lyons, of the Hustings Court, for marrying two women, has been declared guilty by the jury sworn in his case, and sent to the Penitentiary for three years. He got off cheaply.

--Judge Lyons's Court was not in session yesterday, owing to the election.
It will sit to-day at 11 o'clock, when the trial of criminals will be resumed.
The Grand Jury also convenes at the hour above named.
Witnesses in cases before it would do well to be on hand promptly.

Hustings Court, Monday, May 29
--Frances Brown was tried for rioting on the 2d of April, found guilty, and fined $50. Judge Lyons fixed the term of her imprisonment in jail at 4 months.
Andrew J. Hawkins, was tried for rioting and acquitted.
John Murphy was tried for maliciously shooting and wounding Matthew Callahan, with intent to wound and kill him. The jury found him guilty of unlawful shooting, with intent to maim, and ascertained his term of imprisonment at 4 years in the penitentiary.-- udge Crump, prisoner's counsel, moved to set aside the verdict.
The motion will be determined this morning.
The grand jury indicted Joseph Zimmerman and Richard Morris for grand larceny.
Hustings Court.
--In consequence of sickness in his family, no Court was held by Judge Lyons yesterday.
His absence from the city will be protracted till Wednesday, at which time it is expected he will again be ready for business.
