Arrests. --The city police accomplished a number of arrests on Saturday. Most of the parties having been taken in custody for drunkenness and similar offences, were let off, with the exception of Daniel Ruffin, a free negro, arrested for stealing from Beverly Randolph a cloth coat, worth $50, and from Thos. Wright a gold ring, worth $21. He was held for examination before the Mayor. The following arrests were made yesterday, viz: Thos. Tardy, for stealing a pair of boots, worth $6, from J. Nortlinger; William McGinness, for trying to rescue Tardy from the officer after he had been taken in custody, and Samuel Howard for throwing stones at Jas. Mander's house.
the back-yard helplesely drunk, carried him to Castle Thunder, and learning that he had been robbed, went back and arrested a number of men, among whom was Kelley and Gannon — On the former they found Franklin's pocket diary and $15 of his money; on the latter, his commission as Captain. Franklin tesfied that when he went into Hughes's Row he was perfectly sober, took one drink, and never recovered his consciousness for eight hours. Shortly after taking it he was carried in the back-yard of Jas. Grogan's house, where he was robbed. In the house of the latter were many drunken men. A witness, who saw the robesery perpetrated, testified to his belief that another comrade of Kelley and Gannon had gotten the principal part of Franklin's money. The Mayor issued a warrant for the arrest of Jas. Geogan, and he appearing before his Honor, was held to bail to appear before the Hustings Court to answer for keeping a disorderly house, and selling liquor without a license. Kelley and Gannon

A Clarke, and Jim Murphy, a boy, were charged with feloniously and violently assaulting and attempting to rob Jac. A. Owens, in Sugar Bottom, south of the Easin, on the line of 9th st. The defendants, while Owens was at the Petersburg Depot, Friday night, undertook to show him the way to a feed store owned by the Government, and on the way attempted to get even by robbery. Maggie Hambleton, having been released from jail on Saturday, on furnishing such security was let off; but Jenny Lind, who could not give the bail, went to prison. Wm. H. Travis, proprietor of the Alhambra, on 14th street, was arraigned for keeping a disorderly and ill governed house. Alphens Travis, Francis Boggs, and Andrew Disney, arrested in the same house, were discharged. The case against Wm. H. Travis was continued until Friday next. Jas. S Taylor was examined for stealing a mare, worth $200, from Elizabeth Haupt, and sent on before the Hustings Court. Wm. A. Read, the young fellow implicated in the abduction (with John T. Smith) of a coat belonging to Geo. R. Howard, was brought into Court, and being confronted with the witness was identified as the same party with Smith on the occasion of the robbery. He was sent on for further examination before the Hustings Court.
