When Major Anderson and his officers left the sallyport, it struck up Hail to the Chief. The last one who retired was Surgeon Crawford, who attended poor Gallway until the latest moment possible. Soon afterwarde civil war--Major Anderson, bearing the title of Major-General in the Armies of the United States, again raised that tattered flag over all that remained of Fort Sumter--a heap of ruins.
