The Legislature. --The Senate was not in session yesterday. In the House several Senate bills were received and committed. Mr. Kaufman, from the Committee on Propositions and Grievances, reported a bill incorporating the Virginia Volunteer Navy Company. The. Senate bill to abolish the auditing board was reported from the Committee on Finance; as also a bill in relation to the currency. The following resolutions of inquiry were submitted: By Mr. Irving--Of forming into military districts, for defence against raids, such cities, towns, and counties as may be so situated as to render the formation of such districts convenient as well as mutually defensive.--By Mr. Edwards--Of requiring the Banks of the Commonwealth to receive deposits from all citizens who may desire to make them. Salt to inquire into the conduct of the Superintendent of Salt for his failure to supply the quota of salt to the respective counties of the State; and that the committee have power to send for persons and papers. Mr. Magruder brought forward a resolution looking to the introduction of a bill to enlarge the appropriation to the University of Virginia. Mr. Butler introduced a resolution changing the hour for the meeting of the House from 12 M. to 11 A. M., which was adopted. Mr. Irving submitted a resolution instructing the Committee on the Penitentiary to inquire and report how many pairs of shoes and other garments can be furnished in twelve months by the workshops of the penitentiary; and also, how far the resources of the institution can be made available and applied to the clothing of Virginia troops in the field.
