--The following incident of the Revolution is not without its parallels in the present war:
"During the severity of the winter campaign in North Carolina, General Greene, passing a sentinel who was barefooted, said, 'I fear, my good fellow, you must suffer from old. ' 'Pretty much so,' was the reply; 'but I do not complain, because I know I should fare better had our general power to procure supplies.
