President Garrett, in his report, says: "In the new era that has opened, another subject of the greatest importance to the counes may embarrass the enterprise proposed, but its results in the future will justify every effort in its behalf." Mr. Garrett quotes a long extract from Governor Peirpoint's message in this connection. Governor Peirpoint was for a long time th, have never paid much attention to this mammoth corporation, will be able to judge from the following statistics. President Garrett says: "The Baltimore and Ohio Company has increased its equipment to about three hundred locomotives and fourway from Baltimore of the immense quantities of freight which they carry to that city, and adopting any and every measure that they deem probably conducive to the welfare of the Company and of Baltimore. the committee had maturely considered the question of freighting in connection with the express and transportation companies, and had come to the conclusion that the undeveloped state of the times did not admit of any special line of policy upon the subject now, and rendered it proper that the whole matter should be left to the control of the Directory hereafter. He therefore asked that the committee be discharged from any further consideration of the matter. The committee was thereupon discharged. Colonel E. Barksdale, of Halifax, offered a resolution of thanks to the chairman for the able and efficient manner in which he had discharged the duties of his position, which was unanimously adopted. Colonel Barksdale also offered a resolution of thanks to Messrs. Carrington and Ford for the use of the room, which was adopted. No other business being presented for the consideration of the meeting. On motion of Mr. Garrett, of Halifax, the meeting adjourned sine die.
