Strange Proceeding. --On Tuesday night, at half-past 8 o'clock, as the chief of police, Ben Garrett, was within a short distance of his dwelling, on Beal street, beyond the second bayou, he was met by a man who presented a drawn bayonet and ordered him to stand. Garrett asked what he meant? The man replied, "Stano, d — n you, or I will kill you." Mr. Garrett contrived to pick up a brick in each hand, with which to defend himself, being unarmed.
