Singular cause of death.
--A few days since a negro man named Elias, slave of Mrs. Harriet Wilson, of Chesterfield, died from eating pretty freely of "hard tack," which he had picked up from the field of battle on the south side of the river.
It is not known whether the bread partook of the poisonous substance from exposure on the ground, or was made from some of the damaged flour which has caused so many cases of illness as have recently come to our knowledge.
