Byrd, concerning the report alluded to in the above, asking the public to do a soldier the justice to suspend an unfavorable opinion until the facts were known; and we took occasion, at the same time, to remark that after the matter was thoroughly i and consign to oblivion the work of the villainous traducers. We have received and read letters from Capt. Goldsby, Lieut. S. N. McCraw, Lieut. John Cussons, and others, all corroborating the statements above made, and paying the highest encomiums to the spotless character and soldier-like bearing of Capt. Dawson. The original manuscript of the above statements are in the possession of Col. Byrd, who will cheerfully exhibit them to any-one on application being made.--Editor Reporter.]

ompany of Lincolnite cavalry, on picket at Fishing Creek, were also attacked by our cavalry on Sunday and chased six miles, strewing the road as they went with guns, blankets, and pistols, which our brave boys deliberately gathered up. Among the arms thrown away by these panic stricken Northerners, were several Colt's rifles. More Prisoners.--Capt. Phillips, with his company of cavalry, last night brought in from Hancock county several prisoners, among them one deserter, who had joined Dr. Byrd's company. Capt. Cocke also brought in several prisoners from Cocke county. John Black, of Anderson county, who has been in correspondence with the enemy, was also brought in yesterday by Capt. Clarke's company of Minute Men. Incendiarism in Haskins County.--A friend at Whitesburg writes us, Dec. 12th, that "last night Mr. Jances Headerick's and Mr. Barnard Headerick's barns and cribs were both burned by incendiaries. The casualties on our side were four killed and ten wounded. Col. Vaughn himself made a narrow escape. Riding up to a party of the enemy, whom he mistook for friends, he made himself known to them. They immediately levelled their guns at him, but before they could fire he threw himself from his house down a steep embankment and escaped.
