e case of Lewis H Allen, the boy charged with forging the name of John H Baptist to an order on the Post-Office, was continued till to day. Mary Plait was charged with beating Sarah Carrick. This was a household row, occurring between these ladies, who occupied the same house, on the southside of the basin. The Recorder thinking no great damage had been or was likely to be done by either of the parties to the other, dismissed the case. Elizabeth Victor was charged with stealing bread from Margaret Miller, and Margaret Miller was charged with attempting to "get even," by stealing one of Mrs Victor's window shutters. This appearing also to be nothing more than a neighborhood broil it was dismissed. A parcel of negro women, caught in an unlawful assembly in a house of bad character, near the old Gas. Works, were ordered to be whipped and committed to jail. Alex Scott and John G Andrews were fined for permitting their respective sons to throw stones in the street.
