Counterfeiting --The negro Robert Jones, slave of John C. Allen, who attempted to pass a $20 Treasury note with forged signatures, at the store of Wm. Thalheimer, two or three days ago, was examined yesterday before Commissioner Watson, and remanded for trial at the next regular term of the Confederate States Circuit Court. It appears that Wm. Flegheimer, a clerk in the Treasury Department, was present when the note was offered, and seeing at once that the signatures were not genuine, detained the note and gave information which led to the arrest. The negro gave a bungling account of the manner in which he obtained it, telling several stories which proved to be falsehoods. The note was undoubtedly stolen, either from the lithographic establishment or the Department, and signed by some person of no great pretensions to good chirography.
Discharged --John A. Fulcher, arraigned on Saturday last on the charge of buying turkeys to sell again at his store, in the neighborhood of the Second Market, and the decision of whose case was deferred by the Mayor for further consideration, was yesterday dismissed of any violation of law, and directed to take possession of the fowls, which were held by Mr. Tyler, the Clerk of the market. The charge against Dandridge, slave of G. A. Smith, of stealing a shawl and bonnet from a negro in the employ of Mrs. John C. Allen, was not sustained before His Honor yesterday morning, and he was accordingly discharged. Sam, slave of John B. Carter, was discharged from any dishonest conduct in the possession of a pair of pants and overcoat which had excited the suspicions of one of the Mayor's officers, and thereby caused his arrest.

Martha Cook, a very pretty, well, dressed white woman, of about eighteen or twenty summers, was fined $15 for keeping at cook shop in the lower part of the city without first obtaining a license to do so.--She readily "planked down the dust,"and asked the Mayor's instructions as to the mode of procuring the proper license and thereby avoid all legal trouble for the future. Two negroes, named Washington, the property of Turpin & Yarbrough, and Robert, slave of John C. Allen, were arraigned on the charge of stealing two baskets of crockery ware and one large rocking chair, valued at $300, from Robert Richardson, a few days since. In addition to the evidence which was given in the case proving the guilt of the parties, it was intimated that they had been engaged in running off a negro woman, formerly belonging to Mr. Richardson. The Mayor continued the examination till Wednesday next, and committed the prisoners to jail for safekeeping. The charge agai
