It shall be the duty of the officers conducting the election directed by law to be held on the fourth Thursday in May next, at the places appointed for holding the same, to open a poll to take the sense of the qualified voters of this Commonwealth upon the ratification or rejection of "An ordinance to repeal the ratification of the Constitution of the d votes in ascertaining the result of the said election in the State. 9. That the election for members of Congress for this State to the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States, required by law to be held on the fourth Thursday in May next, is hereby suspended and prohibited until otherwise ordained by this Convention. Done in Convention in the city of Richmond, on the twenty fourth day of April, eighteen hundred and sixty one, and in the eighty fifth year of the
ssembly;" And whereas, it is also provided by said ordinance that is it shall take effect on the first day of July next, when ratified by a majority of the votes of the people of the Commonwealth, cast at a poll to be taken thereon, on the fourth Thursday in May; and whereas, by the schedule annexed to said ordinance, it is made the duty of the Governor, without delay, to make proclamation of their suit, stating therein the aggregate vote for and against the amendment; and it appearing that thes elected to each House of the General Assembly. this Ordinance shall take effect on the first day of July next, when ratified by a majority of the votes of the people of this Commonwealth, cast at a poll to be taken thereon, on the fourth Thursday in May next, in pursuance of a Schedule hereafter to be enacted.
